Flamenco and Traditonal Spanish night

Flamenco and traditional Spanish night

As in all towns there are traditional evenings you can pay a fortune for, and go off with the holiday rep to the hills and drink Sangria, see a bit of dancing, have the commentary in 12 different European languages and come home skint, hungry and thirsty about midnight having dropped people off at 12 hotels on route!
Well don't worry here in Nerja there are 2 great places for a good traditional night out. Both these are free entry.

Bar El Molino, Flamenco Guitar.
Calle San Jose.

Bar El Molino, Nerja

Bar El Molino (The Mill) is a fairly small place just off of Calle Pintada. Entry is free. Beer, etc is reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly. Immediately in-front of you is the bar, go to the right, down some steps and the whole place opens up to a stage and seating with tables. Waiter service is optional. Normally there is a man bashing out the Flamenco guitar singing about his Donkey or his girlfriend, or whatever. Who cares, it is just a great atmosphere. On the right evening the local Spanish customers get up and dance, encouraging the rest of us to get up and dance like our dad at a wedding. The whole place is alive with fun.
The actual bar opens around 8pm, music at 9 until close. As this is 'Spanish time' it could happen at any time, but well worth a visit. You can get snacks, but eat elsewhere first.
A great night out.

El Burro Blanco,  (The White Donkey), Flamenco Dancing
Calle Gloria.

El Burro Blanco, The White Donkey, Nerja

El Burro Blanco, The white Donkey, opens from Thursday onwards for the weekend. The first thing I noticed was the price of drinks. One wine and a small bottled beer was about 8 Euros. But then they do have excellent entertainment to pay for. Unlike the Bar El Molino, this place stops the entertainment around midnight. If you are looking for a guitarist, a bit of wailing, traditional dancing complete with the stamping on the floor, then you are at the right place. The board outside advises booking a table. On this occasion I would concur as there are not many tables as so much floor space is taken up with the excellent dancing. Again optional waiter service. Again, eat elsewhere.
